Meet the team: Ed Rosten, our CTO

Meet Ed Rosten, our CTO.
With a PhD in Computer Vision from the University of Cambridge, a Master of Engineering from the University of Oxford, and over 20 years of experience, Ed leads the talented computer vision and robotics team at Sorted.
Before discovering the waste industry, Ed pioneered the field of Computer Vision in the UK. He is known as the inventor of the FAST Corner Detection, an algorithm now used on phones, self driving cars, robot vacuum cleaners and even an extraterrestrial helicopter! His work experience ranges from Cambridge University to Los Alamos to his own prosthetics and robotics start up, to leading machine learning teams at Snapchat.
Thanks to Ed and the team, our algorithm doesn’t just “see” waste, it “understands” it. And their hard work is paying off. Our model now outperforms the average human eye, achieving up to 99% precision for some waste categories.
He’s also the one behind our purpose-built robot, designing SortBot specifically to meet the needs of the recycling industry.
